It's become apparent that I need to explain the way some of the fun extras on this board work.
RankYou earn rank by post count. Everyone starts off as a Baby Member, then eventually become a Good Cookie, then a Proud Member, then ....whatever else.
I set the ranks to change up every 50 posts because I think it's fun to get to the next rank. As of right now, I've got new ranks for up to 500 posts. Most of us post whore enough to blow right through the ranks (*that's what she said*), but some people can't post as often and I was trying to make it fun for them too.
The ranks are random as all hell right now. I'll give you some insight as to what the thought process was when I created them:
"I guess I should make ranks that would escalate in coolness as you gain more posts..."
"We'll start as a ... Baby Member?, I guess..."
"Oh, shit! I can give each rank a special picture! Hell yeah! Everyone's going to start out as Bubbles..."
"I'm too lazy to look through 12 pages of PB smilies. What do I have on page 1? Can that be a rank?"
"Mr. T looks like a cool rank..."
And so on. And, yes, Mr. T is actually a rank.
If you'd like to offer suggestions for more structure, please help a sista out. It's obvious that rank creation is not something I excel at.
PointsIn another post, I said that you earn points for signing up. I'm a big, fat liar. You automatically earn 1 point every day after registering. I remembered the point/registering correlation anyway.
Otherwise, you earn 3 points every time you start a new topic. You earn 1 point whenever you reply to a topic.
Here are some of the things we could potentially do with the points:
To earn more...
- We can have "Double Point Weekends" (I can change the point values on Saturday morning, then change them back Monday morning.)
- We can make some parts of the board worth more points than others. For example, if we want to get more people posting in the Suggestions category, I can make each new topic worth 10 points and every reply worth 5.
- We can call the points whatever we want. If someone thinks we should rename them, please start a poll.
We can spend the points...
- By creating special boards that you can unlock by "buying" your way in with points.
- By creating special awards, trophies, badges etc. that you can add to your siggie.
If it helps you all think of other special rewards we can offer, let me explain what I'm capable of with the points:
- I can call them anything.
- I can assign values as I see fit to any forum (main topic in a category, for instance "Admin Announcements").
- I can deduct points for any reason (once they're "spent" at the points store, or for bad behavior.)
- I can donate points too. This makes it possible to hold special contests like a Dessert Team Posting War. Winning team members get (x amount) of points, for instance.
ReputationYour reputation has never been so important...
Actually, it still isn't.
You increase or decrease another member's reputation by voting on their posts. You vote + to give them 1 point or - to take away a point. You find these buttons on the right side of the post.
You can also increase another member's reputation by thanking them for their post. To do this, you can press the handy Thanks button at the top of the post.
k
Unless I'm mistaken (because I usually am), you can only thank: 1) replies to a topic you created and 2) one time per post.
I have not played with this enough to have it all figured out. (*that's what she said*) I do know that thanking someone increases their reputation by 3.
GroupsSo far, I've created 3 groups catering to our love of the Cake vs. Pie debate: Cake, Pie and Bi-snacktual.
I assigned rules to these groups. Anyone from the old Beeps board is exempt from the rules about posting to join (even though 50 posts is, like, nothing to us), but I'd prefer you didn't switch sides unless you had a good reason (like joining Team Pie...).
If you'd like to join a group, please reply with your group request.
If you think that 50 is not enough posts to see Kapi's cake porn, please also reply with that request.
